Thanksgiving Recipes...Apple-Pear Crumble Pie

This has been a favorite in my house for a very long time and this is one thing people request I bring every time I go somewhere for Thanksgiving or Christmas. I am posting the recipe as I first seen it on Kraft Recipes, BUT I have put my own spin on it. I will post what I do differently at the end. This is one of DH's, my dad, and my brother's favorite desserts! It makes the house smell so yummy!

what you need

24 NILLA Wafers, crushed (about 3/4 cup)
1/4 cup  packed brown sugar
1/4 cup butter, melted
1   ready-to-use refrigerated pie crust (1/2 of 14.1-oz. pkg.)
4 oz. (1/2 of 8-oz. pkg.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
2 large  baking apples, peeled, sliced
1 large fresh pear, peeled, sliced
1/3 cup  granulated sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp.  ground cinnamon
1-1/4 cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping

make it

HEAT oven to 375ºF.
MIX wafer crumbs, brown sugar and butter until well blended; set aside.
PLACE pie crust in 9-inch pie plate sprayed with cooking spray. Spread cream cheese carefully onto bottom of crust; sprinkle with half the crumb mixture. Combine fruit in large bowl. Add granulated sugar, flour and cinnamon; toss to coat. Spoon over crumb layer in crust; sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture.
BAKE 35 min. or until fruit is tender and crust is lightly browned, covering loosely with foil after 25 min. if necessary to prevent crust from overbrowning. Cool. Serve topped with COOL WHIP or Vanilla Ice Cream

As I stated above. I have put my own spin on this and it makes it very rich,  but oh so good! Instead of white granulated sugar I use all dark brown sugar. I also make extra of the crumble topping because it is so yummy. To make the pie look more full I use an 8" pie plate instead of a 9". This is an excellent spin on the traditional apple pie. You will not be disappointed!

I am also thankful for people that God has put in my life, my friends and family, but especially my husband and my 2 little blessings, Emily and Isabella.

Verse of the Day:

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;" Ephesians 5:19-20

Thanksgiving Recipes.....Chocolate Mousse Torte

I wish I could take credit for this recipe or even say I give it my own spin, but I can't! I got this recipe off of the Nilla Wafer box. I did not do anything to change this but substitute the raspberries for strawberries oh and I used chocolate fudge pudding instead of regular chocolate for that extra chocolate flavor. I DO NOT like raspberries! This is amazing!! SO GOOD!!!!! I wish I could have taken my own pictures BUT my camera batteries were drained yesterday at the Trans Siberian Orchestra Concert. I hope you enjoy this as much as we did.

Ingredients

37NILLA Wafers, divided
4squares Semi-Sweet Chocolate, divided
2pkg. (3.9 oz. each)  Chocolate Instant Pudding
2cups plus 2 Tbsp. cold milk, divided
1tub (8 oz.) Whipped Topping, thawed, divided
1pkg. (8 oz.) Cream Cheese, softened
1/4cup sugar
3/4cup fresh raspberries, sliced strawberries, blueberries, or even bananas!

Directions

Stand 16 wafers around inside edge of 9-inch round pan lined with plastic wrap. Melt 3 chocolate squares as directed on package.
Beat pudding mixes and 2 cups milk with whisk 2 min. Add melted chocolate; mix well. Stir in 1 cup COOL WHIP; pour into prepared pan. Beat cream cheese, sugar and remaining milk with mixer until well blended.
Stir in 1 cup of the remaining COOL WHIP; spread over pudding. Top with remaining wafers. Refrigerate 3 hours.
Meanwhile, shave remaining chocolate square into curls. Invert torte onto plate. Remove pan and plastic wrap. Top torte with remaining COOL WHIP, berries or bananas and chocolate curls.

Thanksgiving Recipes...Potato Casserole

This is one of my most requested recipes and chances are you have probably had this in some form or another. Everyone has their own take on it. This is #1 on my top list of things I want for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.

1 package of Frozen Southern Style Hash Browns (the cubed ones)
1 can of Cream of Chicken Soup
1 16 ox container of Sour Cream
1 small to medium onion diced
8-10 ozs of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/4 cup of butter diced
1 sleeve of Ritz Crackers

Preheat the oven to 375
Spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray and set aside
In a large bowl combine the hash browns, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, onion, and 8 ozs of sharp cheddar cheese.
Pour into greased 9x13 pan.
Dot the top with the cubed butter.
Top with some more sharp cheddar cheese (this is optional) and the crushed ritz crackers.
Cover with tin foil and bake for 45 minutes.
Remove tin foil and bake an additional 10-15 minutes.

This is so good! You can substitute the crackers for anything really. For instance, corn flakes mixed with melted  butter. Some people use plain potato chips, the list goes on. Add as much or as little cheese as you want and any variety. I find personally that sharp cheddar is the best. Also when baking it, you want to make sure the potatoes are done. Oven times can vary. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Thanksgiving Recipes...Classic Baked Corn Pudding/Corn Casserole

I LOVE Thanksgiving and I LOVE to cook...most of the time. Starting today I will be sharing my favorite recipes for Thanksgiving. Some of these I have been doing for years and some are new. Hope you enjoy.

Now this recipe will be a new one for this year. I had corn pudding for the first time last Thanksgiving at a friend's  house when someone had brought it for their side dish. At first I was skeptical but I love corn and I thought why not. I am glad I did because it was delicious!!! I pulled this recipe from foodnetwork.com's website and hope it is good. It has to be, it is a Paula Dean Recipe!  I will let you know :) But looking at the recipe now I can already tell you I will be adding some of that cheese into to the casserole itself.

Come back tomorrow for another favorite!

Ingredients

  • 1 (15 1/4-ounce) can whole kernel corn, drained
  • 1 (14 3/4-ounce) can cream-style corn
  • 1 (8-ounce) package corn muffin mix (recommended: Jiffy)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl, stir together the 2 cans of corn, corn muffin mix, sour cream, and melted butter. Pour into a greased 9 by 13-inchcasserole dish. Bake for 45 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven and top with Cheddar. Return to oven for 5 to 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted. Let stand for at least 5 minutes and then serve warm.

Wednesday Blog Hops

Wordish Wednesday

iFellowship

These people are awesome. This video is about 3 years old but it is good. This is a tribute to the Patriot Guard Riders! These people are real heroes in my book! You have an awful cult disguised as a church that protests at soldier's funerals and these people go in and make sure they do not disrupt the funeral and more importantly that the families of the fallen soldiers do not see their awful signs! That church gives Christians everywhere a bad name and I am here to tell you they are not Christians and they are not a church. They are a cult!!! I thought this video for my Wordless/Wordish Wednesday would be appropriate for my Word-filled Wednesday and my ifellowship post for this week.

Verses of the Day:

"Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.  But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity." Luke 13:23-27
